Troubleshooting a Van Roof Leak
Confirmed Issue:
A water leak appears to be coming from the van roof. Either dripping water or a wet spot are visible on the headliner.
Affected Units:
Any Vandoit van
Issue Explanation:
Roof leaks can come from several possible sources, causing the headliner to be wet, dripping water from dome lights, or dripping water from the ceiling. The vans are parked at angles and/or driven up different inclines, causing water to flow different directions. Thus, the location of the dampness or the dripping water does not indicate where the roof leak is actually occurring. The below listed sources are the most common sources. Providing clear pictures to support@vandoit.com will expedite resolution steps and diagnosing the cause of the leak.
Resolution:
Note: Most of these resolution steps require climbing a ladder or scaffolding in order to view parts of the van roof. Please use caution when climbing up and down and while viewing the roof. Have a partner nearby for safety. DO NOT sit or stand on the roof of the van as it is not meant to hold the weight of a person and can cause seams to fail and let water in.
1. The MaxxAir fan.
B.) Take photos of the the bolts holding the flange to the roof. Make sure each bolt is tightened to the point that the rubber seal under the washer is "squishing out" from underneath the metal washer.
.
C.) Older units with flex seal will not have bolts. Check the black flex seal to make sure no significant cracks have occurred.
D.) Raise the lid of your air vent and send pictures of where the fan sits in the flange. Make sure the screws on either side are set tightly.
Note: If you took delivery/possession of your van from Vandoit between February 2021 - August 31 2021, your van requires warranty work on MaxxFan in regards to a potential roof leak. If you have not reached out to the Customer Support Team regarding this, please do.
Note: Older model vans might not be equipped with fans that can be open/used during the rain. You can reach out to the Customer Support Team with a photo of your fan if you're not sure which model your van is equipped with.
2. Does the leak appear to be coming from the passenger sliding door? Check to make sure that the door closes properly. These doors--especially the automatic ones--when left cracked open, can lead to a leak on the inside of the van.
4. Ford Chassis Roof
B.) The radio antenna
C.) The roof rack feet
D.) The circular caps on the roof
E.) The roof cap for lighting and solar
