Confirmed Issue:
There is a sulfuric smell inside the van (like rotten eggs or sewer water).
Affected Units:
Issue Explanation:
A sulfuric smell can come from a couple of different sources and can trigger the carbon monoxide alarm. These sources--and their resolutions--are listed below from least to most involved.
Resolution:
1. If the gray water tank has not been emptied or cleaned out in a while, the tank, the sink, or the black hose leading from the sink to the tank may be the source of the smell. Empty the tank and clean it out with a solution of water and vinegar or water and a small amount of bleach.
4. If the above sources have been ruled out as the source of the smell, there is a possibility that the Ford chassis battery, located under the driver's seat, may be the source. Common signs are leaking acid or strong sulfuric smell only around or near the driver's seat. If you suspect this may be the case, take your van to a local Ford dealership to have the battery inspected. Increase ventilation in the van until a fix can be found.
