Rattling or Noisy MaxxAir Fan
Confirmed Issue:
The MaxxAir fan rattles or makes noise while the van is moving and closed or while it is operating.
Affected Units:
Any Vandoit van with a MaxxAir fan
Issue Explanation:
Typically, the MaxxAir fan rattles/makes noise due to one of two reasons: 1. While the van is moving (i.e. driving), the MaxxAir fan rattles because there is a small gap between fan parts that allows for air flow. 2. While in use, the fan motor squeaks due to the fact that it needs to be cleaned or because the blades are touching the inside of the fan.
Resolution:
1. Regardless of the source of the sound, make sure that the fan is operable: Turn it off and on and raise and lower the fan using both the buttons on the fan and the remote. If you notice any problems, send video of what you experience in a Customer Support ticket or to support@vandoit.com. If not, proceed to step #2.
2. Many van owners experience rattling with their MaxxAir fans while driving. You can resolve this by reaching out to MaxxAir directly and requesting a gasket you can install that will dampen the sound: https://www.airxcel.com/rv/maxxair/contact-us
Alternatively, conduct an internet search for "MaxxAir fan insulated cover" and you will find a few other product solutions there as well.
If the noise you are hearing is occurring while the fan is in use, see step #3.
3. The MaxxAir fan motor may make noise due to needing cleaning or because blades are touching the inside of the fan. To address this, use this instructional video to carefully disassemble the fan motor, clean it, test it, and put it back together.
4. If step #3 does not resolve the noise, it may be that the fan blades are touching the sides of the fan housing. If this is the case, the blades can carefully be trimmed down with a knife.
