Dometic Penguin II Air Conditioner Not Working

Dometic Penguin II Air Conditioner Not Working

Confirmed Issue:

The Dometic rooftop air conditioner is not working.

Affected Units:

Any Vandoit van with a Dometic Penguin II rooftop air conditioner

Resolution:

The most common reason the Dometic Penguin II rooftop air conditioner stops working is because the 20 amp breaker the unit is wired to is tripped.

1.  Reset the 20 amp breaker and try running the air conditioner.

2.  If the air conditioner still does not operate, try resetting the air conditioner's thermostat by doing the following for a single-zone thermostat:

A. Turn the thermostat off.
B. Simultaneously press and hold the (+) button and the On/Off Mode button for at least 3 seconds. The display will show a (–) symbol.
C. Press the On/Off Mode button again to complete the reset.

3.  If your van is equipped with a multi-zone thermostat, reset the air conditioner's thermostat by doing the following:

A. Turn the thermostat off.
B. Simultaneously press and hold the Zone and Mode buttons and return the switch to the on position. The letters "FF" will appear on the display.
C. Release the Zone and Mode buttons to complete the reset.

4.  Verify your van is plugged into shore power, the temperature is set in the mid-70s, and the unit is set to the low fan speed.  Vandoit does not recommend using the high fan speed or setting the temperature lower than the mid-70s.

Note: The Dometic Penguin II air conditioner should only be run from the AGM system when the van is plugged into shore power.  If running from the lithium system, Vandoit recommends plugging the van into shore power if the air conditioner will be run for more than a couple of hours.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please submit a ticket through the Customer Support portal or email support@vandoit.com with a description of what was happening in the van when the air conditioner stopped operating and a video of the air conditioner and breaker panel.
