Difficulty Closing Transit Sliding Door

Difficulty Closing Transit Manual Sliding Door

Confirmed Issue:

The Ford Transit manual sliding door does not close easily.

Affected Units:

Any Vandoit van built on a Ford Transit with a manual sliding door.

Alert
If your Transit has a power sliding door, please see this article.

Resolution:

The manual passenger sliding door on a Ford Transit may be difficult to close for a variety of reasons.  The resolutions below are in response to some of the most common situations Vandoit has seen; it is not an exhaustive list of possible reasons.

1. Reason: Air inside the van is creating resistance.
Resolution: Open the driver side door before closing the sliding door so the air has a means of escape.

2. Reason: Something is obstructing the track or rail the door slides on.
Resolution: Inspect the track and rail; remove any obstructions. The bottom of the Bug Wall is a common obstruction--make sure it is not impeding the door's movement or closure.

3. Reason: Debris may be impacting the door's ability to close.
Resolution: Inspect the rollers on the sliding door frame and door itself. Remove any dirt, debris, or grime that could be hindering the door's movement.

4. Reason: The sliding door is misaligned.
Resolution: If you suspect misalignment, schedule an appointment at a local Ford dealership to have the door inspected and re-aligned.

If the information above does not resolve the issue, submit a ticket through the Customer Support Portal or email support@vandoit.com with a description of the step(s) you have taken and a video of the door's operation.
