Combimaster Overload Error

Combimaster Overload Error

Confirmed Issue:

On the front of the Combimaster Inverter, the light under "inverter" is blinking red.  The Mastervolt EasyView 5 Monitor is displaying an overload error in the Combimaster Inverter Device State widget.  The inverter is not working properly, which means that the van's electrical system is not distributing AC power to the wall outlets.

Affected Units:

Any Vandoit van with the Mastervolt lithium system

Issue Explanation:

Inverter overload is due to the output AC power demanding a higher draw than the Combimaster can invert. If you are experiencing an inverter overload error, take note of which devices are running in the van.  It is not uncommon for van users to leave the water heater on, which is a high-drawing device.  If the water heater is running at the same time as other high-drawing devices, such as the AC-powered rooftop air conditioner, this can trigger an inverter overload error. The Combimaster will try to reset itself twice in order to resolve the overload error code. If the output power draw is still too high, the steps below will reset the Combimaster and clear the overload code.

Resolution:

1.  Unplug the van from shore power.

2.  Underneath the Combimaster Inverter, there is a black toggle switch marked "On | Charge only."  Switch the inverter into "Charge Only" mode.

On a LIV Model, to access this switch you will need to remove the black ABS panel underneath your electrical cabinet.
On a DO Model, to access this switch you will need to remove the plexiglass in front of the MAC 50.

3.  Verify AC-powered devices are unplugged from wall outlets or are turned off.

4.  Plug the van into shore power again.

6.  Switch the inverter back to "On" mode.

7.  Check the Mastervolt EasyView 5 Monitor to see if the overload error is still displayed.  Check AC-powered devices (i.e. devices plugged into wall outlets) to see if they are receiving power.

If these steps do not resolve the overload error, please submit a ticket through the Customer Support portal or email support@vandoit.com with a description of how the power system and devices in the van are currently functioning.  Include photos of the Mastervolt EasyView 5 Monitor screens, especially those displaying error message(s).

Considerations:

To prevent an inverter overload error, Vandoit recommends keeping the water heater turned off when not in use.  In addition, the AC-powered air conditioner (Dometic Pengiun II) should only be run at low fan speed and set no lower than the low 70s.
