The Carbon Monoxide/Propane Monitor Is Going Off

The Carbon Monoxide/Propane Monitor Is Going Off

Confirmed Issue:

The Carbon Monoxide monitor alarm is going off and shows a flashing red light.

Affected Unit:

Any Vandoit van

Summary:

The CO monitor is very sensitive--four times more sensitive than a household CO monitor; the alarm will go off for seemingly small amounts of CO or propane in the environment.  There are a couple of things that can trigger the monitor's alarm: High levels of carbon monoxide, high levels of propane, or a low battery level.  Most of the time, the alarm goes off because of a low battery level on an AGM system; a lithium battery system should not reach low enough levels to trigger the alarm.

Resolution:

1.  Confirm that it is the CO monitor alarm going off and not the GoPower or Mastervolt inverter.  The red light will be flashing on the CO monitor if it is going off.

2.  To silence the alarm, press the white button.

3.  If you believe the alarm was triggered by a buildup of CO in the van, open all of the doors and turn on the MaxxAir fan so that it is blowing air out of the van.

4.  The CO detector is powered directly by the battery system, so if your van batteries are low, it can go off like the ones in your house when the batteries need to be replaced.  To determine if low batteries are triggering your alarm, check your battery level on your inverter screen.  If it is low, plug the van into shore power and recharge the battery system.  Note: This step applies to AGM battery systems only.  Lithium battery systems should not reach this low of a battery level.

5.  If the battery level is not the issue, determine if you were using any devices that run on propane inside or near the van.  Turn off and remove this device from inside/near the van.

If you are unable to determine what triggers the alarm, or if the alarm continues to go off, submit a ticket through the Customer Support portal or email support@vandoit.com with a description of the issue you are encountering and the troubleshooting steps you have taken, along with relevant photos and/or video.
