Blank Espar Controller Screen

Blank Espar Controller Screen

Confirmed Issue:

The Espar controller screen illuminates but does not display any text.

Affected Units:

Any Vandoit van with an Espar Digi-Max D-1000 controller

Issue Explanation:

This issue is most likely the result of a loose connection in the wiring behind the controller.  The heater itself may continue to operate normally when this occurs.

Resolution:

1.  Use this video to check the wiring behind the Espar controller: https://youtu.be/6A-hDHAM0YI.  The video walks you through the following steps:

2.  If needed, remove the rubber gasket from the upper rear corner of the slider door opening to allow for easier access to the headliner where the controller is mounted.

3.  Below the Espar controller, gently pull the headliner away from the van wall from the outside.  Be careful to do this without creasing the headliner.

Notes
Please note: The headliner can be creased easily if bent too far. Owners with DO models may have a vertical extrusion bar mounted behind the slider door that should be removed before attempting, to prevent creasing.

4.  Behind the headliner, locate the wiring running into the back of the Espar controller.

5.  Gently tug on the wiring until you are able to pull out the connector to the wiring.  The plug is black plastic with multiple colored wires coming out of either side.

6.  Take photos of both sides of the connector so that each colored wire is clearly visible.  Send these photos to the Support Team by submitting a ticket through the Customer Support portal or emailing support@vandoit.com.

7.  The Support Team will review the photos to confirm that the connector is wired correctly and that each wire is fully seated.  They will direct you on how to re-seat any wires as needed.

8.  If needed, the Support Team will direct you to separate the two sides of the connector and reconnect them.
