How to Pair the Victron SmartSolar Controller to the VictronConnect App

How to Pair the Victron SmartSolar Controller to the VictronConnect App

Article Objective:
To connect the Victron SmartSolar Controller to the VictronConnect App for remote monitoring

Affected Units:
Any Vandoit with a Victron MPPT SmartSolar Controller

Resolution:
1. Download the VictronConnect app on your smartphone.

2. Once you have downloaded the app on your phone, make sure the Bluetooth settings for the VictronConnect app are turned On. This will be in your phone settings, not the app settings, as pictured below.

If using an Android phone: Go to the phone's Bluetooth settings and pair with the SmartSolar device there before searching for it in the Victron Connect app.

3. Open up the app and connect to your solar controller. The first time you try to connect to your controller it will ask for a password. The password is the last 5 digits of your VIN plus a "0".  (In other words, the format of the password will be #####0.). The three lights on the front of the SmartSolar device in the van will flash to indicate the app has connected.

4. To test the app's readings, park the van in full sunlight with the solar panels unobstructed by branches, debris, etc.  Monitor the app for a day or so and look for fluctuations in incoming amperage that are consistent with the available sunlight throughout the day.  The screenshots below are examples of normal incoming solar amperage.

5. If you have any trouble connecting your solar controller to the app, see the information in this article from Victron.

Info
If your van has more than one Victron device, such as the BMS and DC to DC charger, readings from all devices can be visible in the same app.

If these steps do not result in successfully viewing the solar controller's readings in the app, please submit a ticket through the Vandoit Customer Support portal or email support@vandoit.com with a description of what you are experiencing and any relevant photo(s) and/or video.
