How to Use the Jump Start Relay Button

Confirmed Issue:

Your Ford vehicle battery is low or dead and you're unable to turn the key to start the van. You would like to attempt jump-starting the vehicle battery from the Vandoit battery system.

Affected Units:

Any Vandoit van with a silver jump start relay button on the power cabinet.

Alert
Important: Before attempting the steps below, confirm the kill switch located either under the hood (below) or under the driver's seat is turned on (i.e. set to green) in order to allow the charge from the relay to make it to the Ford battery.

Resolution--for 1 person: 

1. Press and hold the silver jump start relay button for approximately 30 seconds or press and hold the silver jump start relay while using your remote start feature on your keys, if equipped. 

3. If your van does not have a key fob remote, release the silver jump start relay button, walk to the front of the vehicle, and start the engine from the ignition.

4. If the van does not start after first attempt, attempt 2-3 more times before using other methods (below).

Resolution--for 2 people: 

1. Person 1 presses and holds the silver jump start relay button.

2. Person 2 starts the engine from the ignition Immediately.

3. If the van does not start after first attempt, hold the silver button for up to 30 seconds at a time and try starting the van again before using other methods (below).

Alternate Jump-Starting Methods:

If these steps do not start the van, you may need to jump start it the way you would any vehicle; contact your vehicle insurance's roadside assistance or Ford roadside assistance if needed.  Ford roadside assistance is included during the first five years or 60,000 miles from your vehicle's Warranty Start Date and with most Ford Protect Extended Service Plans.
